Planned Downtime 9/14/2014

We have planned a major downtime for this Saturday, September 14th from 4am – noon. During this time you can expect most CoE services to be offline. These include:

  • all CoE home directories and shares
  • windows filesharing
  • sending email
  • reading email
  • most websites
  • all instructional lab machines (Auhll, EI, EII, Phelps)
  • remote access machines (csil.cs.ucsb.edu and linux.engr.ucsb.edu)

These services will not be affected:

  • GUS
  • FileMaker
  • authentication
  • receiving email (although you won't be able to read it)
  • wired and wireless network connectivity

There is a chance that the work might be finished early, so we will be updating the voicemail message on the ECI HelpDesk (893-3221) with the current system status during the outage.

This outage will allow us to perform preventative maintenance on our systems, migrate student accounts to a new server, and increase the student/staff/guest file quota from 500MB to 2GB. As part of this change we will be updating the NFS mount points. For most people this change from will be transparent. However, some users might be affected by this change. If you notice any problems after the outage please let us know by emailing help@engineering.ucsb.edu or calling the HelpDesk at 893-3221.
