FAQ's - Section 4
For the last year we have been steadily replacing and rearchitecting
our entire mail infrastructure.  The goal is to provide a more robust
and complete mail service running modern software and hardware.
To date we have rolled out the following:

1. A new mailing list service.
2. A new spam scanner server.
3. New smtp (mail sending and receiving) servers.
4. A new webmail client.

On Monday (9/5/11) we will be replacing the imap server known as
mail.engr.ucsb.edu.  This will mark a major milestone in the
overall project.

Planned service enhancements include:
1. A new and improved interface for managing forwarding.
2. A new and improved interface for managing vacation
reply settings
3. The ability to manage your own spam filter settings
4. The ability to use server side mail filtering (instead
of in a client such as Thunderbird).

As we roll out these new services please bare with us but
don't hesitate to report any problems that you may encounter or
provide us with feedback.  To do so please send mail to
