Campus Electrical Power Outage
Sunday, September 14

The UC Santa Barbara campus will be without electrical power most of this coming Sunday, September 14, while Southern California Edison installs new equipment to complete the campus’s Electrical Infrastructure Renewal Project. It is expected that power will be restored to the campus by about 6 p.m. Sunday.

During this outage, access to university Web sites will be limited. For those seeking to pay undergraduate fees, the Office of the Registrar, in an effort to address any hardship or difficulties caused by the power outage, has extended the Fall 2008 Fee Payment deadline by 24 hours to 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 16. Students and parents are encouraged to pay fees early. Only PARENT USERS will be able to access the Gaucho E-Bill Web site on Sunday and view billing statements and make payments on line. A special link to that site will be provided Sunday on the temporary UCSB home page.

Campus personnel are advised to turn off all electrical equipment when leaving work on Friday.

Existing building emergency generators will operate during the electrical outage. Facilities Management personnel will be on site to ensure the generators have started and address any issues that may arise.

For information on the electrical outage on Sunday, there will be a recorded message available at 893-2800. This information will be updated every two hours.

UC Santa Barbara thanks you in advance for your patience and understanding while work on this essential electrical upgrade is completed.

Server Upgrades PDF Print

The following file servers will have an OS update requiring reboots
according to the following schedule:

hal2.engr.ucsb.edu     (7/7/8)
hal1.engr.ucsb.edu    (7/8/8)

The reboots will occur before 8am to help minimize the impact
on users.  If your home directory is located on the file servers
hal1 or hal2 then your files, email access, and web page will be
briefly unavailable during the server reboots.  You can tell where
your home directory is located by logging in to one of the ECI
linux machines (see our FAQ for info) and typing "pwd" at the
command prompt.  If your home directory is at /fs/home1 then
you are on hal1 and /fs/home2 on hal2.

Effective immediately all ECI machines will be rebooted at 05:30 each Sunday.
Per the ECI FAQ:
All ECI workstations are scheduled to be rebooted
once per week. Users on the systems are warned 15 minutes
before the reboots, so that they will have enough time to
save all their work and log out.

Note: All the processes on the systems will be killed during
the rebooting process.
