Founding Director for the Graduate Program in Technology ManagementThe UC Santa Barbara College of Engineering is seeking the Founding Director of the Graduate Program in Technology Management. Applications and nominations are welcome. This is an exciting opportunity for someone capable of providing the visionary leadership and effective, team-building management of an innovative world-class program for the education of the 21st century technology managers. To be launched in 2009, this one-year masters program will focus admissions on engineering, science and mathematics students with outstanding academic records. The goal of the program is to attract highly qualified students, mainly directly from undergraduate degree programs, who are interested in a career in technology and innovation management. The Founding Director will have the responsibility to develop the curriculum and to lead the effort to hire additional members of the faculty team. The curriculum will be designed to deliver an integrated set of core classes and electives to build basic skills critical to technology and innovation management for both large and small entrepreneurial technology companies. An endowed chair and a senior leadership position within the College of Engineering are available to support and empower this position and to enable the Founding Director to develop the Program most effectively. This program will reside within the highly regarded UC Santa Barbara College of Engineering. UC Santa Barbara is one of the most rapidly ascending major research universities as recognized by the award of five Nobel Prizes to our faculty in the last eight years. The College of Engineering has the 2nd highest percentage of faculty membership in the National Academy of Engineering in the country. Its graduates have attained senior management positions in dozens of major corporations. More than 50 College of Engineering spin-out companies have generated several hundred million dollars in merger and acquisition activity in recent years.
