Japanese Shotokan Karate in Santa Barbara
My major physical activity is training
Japanese Shotokan karate. I have practiced karate for quite a few years now,
and I enjoy it as much as ever before. Not only does it help me to relax
after long days of doing theoretical work, it also gives an excellent all-round
physical and mental drill. Last, but not least: I have great fun together
with my buddies in the dojo!
I have attached a few pictures of friends
from on-going training at the dojo in Santa Barbara:

Picture 1. Here
are some of the members of Santa Barbara JKA.

Picture 2. Bill applies an elbow in the
back of his unfortunate partner.

Picture 3. Chad takes the opportunity
to sweep his opponent when his opponent loses
concentration for a split second.

Picture 4. We typically exercise basic
techniques (so called kihon) in group. The punch performed in the picture is
called Gyaku Tsuki.

Picture 5. Paul executes a very nice
side-kick.

Picture 6. “Umpf…” Paul is in a kicking
mood. This is a back kick.

Picture 8. Chad is about to make a
round-house kick (a so called mawashi geri).

Picture 9. The picture shows some punch
and block training in progress.

Picture 10. Sensei surprises Paul with
a back round-house kick.
