Mount Whitney

Two friends of mine and I went to the Sierra Nevada in mid-July of 2001 to climb Mount Whitney. It is beautiful in the mountains and it is hard to absorb all the great impressions you get there. I know that pictures can never quite give an accurate idea what it looks like, yet here are some photos from our adventure. Enjoy!

Picture 1: Mt Whitney (in the middle of the picture) is 14,497 feet (4419 meter) high and is located in the Sierra Nevada. Its summit is the highest peak in the contiguous USA.

Picture 2: Mats, Aaron, and I in front of Lone Pine Lake.

Picture 3: Along the trail to the summit, we passed through a variety of beautiful nature.

Picture 4: This is a typical mountain lake. Notice the snow on the other side of the lake.

Picture 5: A breathtaking view appeared when we reached the Crest. Here we could see miles away and below us toward both east and west (note the very distant lakes).

Picture 6: As we hiked along the ridge on the way to the summit, we passed several great rock formations and other beautiful sceneries.

Picture 7: I made it to the summit!

Picture 8: This is an example of what you see from the summit of Mt Whitney.

Picture 9: This is another example of scenery from the summit.

Picture 10: After a strenuous hike; it tastes good with some huge pancakes.
