♦ Assessment and Evaluation ♦
Graduates should be able to evaluate both the processes and desired outcomes of student affairs programs and services. Specifically, students should possess the skills necessary to:
- gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from students and programs;
- read with understanding the published research on higher education;
conduct and write a program evaluation report.
Program assessments and evaluations fuel requests for funding and validate the outcomes of our efforts. They also inform us when re-evaluation and program modifications are required in order to achieve program goals. Both results are very valuable. Informed use of resources is critical in student affairs, assessment and evaluation tools assist allocation of both human and material resources.
- Learning from the labor of others allows Student Affairs professionals to assess and evaluate information that relates to, and informs, our work. It provides impetus for our personal growth and in the application of theory into practice. Review two abstracts from refereed journal articles that inform my work.
