♦ Philosophy of Student Affairs ♦
Intellectual and personal development are intertwined, and interdependent; the fusion of ongoing cognitive, psychosocial, and spiritual growth. My role is to nurture and challenge students, helping them to make connections between their new knowledge and the world around them. I urge students to reflect on their personal values and ethics based on a widening world view and expect them to be responsible for both their actions, and inactions. I create opportunities that further intellectual inquiry, promote social justice, provide spiritual sustenance, increase global awareness and ensure equity and opportunity for all. By my actions, and my words, I teach honesty, accountability, and respect, and further the Student Affairs Mission of my campus by upholding the ideals of scholarship, citizenship and leadership. Students need to be engaged in the process and outcomes of their own education, so that they leave college with an open mind, an accepting heart, and a sense of social responsibility. I seize every opportunity to foster learning and personal development and to build respectful and inclusive communities. My promise is to provide expectation without judgment, and to offer opportunity, guidance, and respect, without exception.
