Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator

Designed and implemented all components for the following six functional areas:

  • Transfer Admissions – shortened time to degree for most new transfers:
    • established selection criteria for all majors, evaluated more than 500 engineering transfer admission applications annually
    • overhauled the Transfer Admission Agreement with over 100 community colleges
    • informed unsuccessful applicants how to strengthen their preparation for future
    • admissibility or suggested alternate programs better suited to their interests/abilities
    • updated community college faculty and staff on admissions criteria and articulations
    • trained faculty advisors on academic requirements, policies and procedures
  • New Student Orientation – provided an inclusive overview of the College for new students:
    • 12 sessions for a summer program serving almost 500 new students and parents
    • developed Engineering components for Parent and Student information sessions
    • recruited and assisted in training student Orientation staff and provided ongoing education and support throughout program
    • coordinated the five department presentations and facility tours each session
  • Engineering College Honors Program – created a new program:
    • established selection criteria for new freshmen wanting to join program
    • instituted ‘Academic Honors’ and ‘Community Service’ requirements
    • outlined Honors Freshman Seminar structure
    • implemented an industrial interaction model for experiential learning
    • started peer e-buddy program – current Honors students mentoring first-year Honors students via email prior to matriculation
    • informed students of benefits and responsibilities of Honors Program
    • tracked Honors credits and Community Service hours
    • maintained Honors Program roster for Registrar’s Office
    • managed Honors Listserv, monitored student postings
    • determined participants for Residential Housing’s Scholar Hall
  • Education Abroad Program - participation in EAP quadrupled during my tenure:
    • promoted EAP to current and future engineering students
    • liaised with system-wide and campus EAP administration on engineering matters
    • advised foreign students studying at UCSB, facilitated their registration
    • assisted faculty with foreign students’ course pre-requisites
    • advised UCSB students planning to study abroad
    • coordinated pre-trip course articulations and approved post-trip petitions
    • completed academic degree plans incorporating foreign coursework
  • Transfer Student Coordinator - increased transfer student acclimation and satisfaction:
    • interpreted and articulated all prior coursework
    • outlined all major and general education requirements required for degree
    • drafted individual year-long academic schedules for each student
    • served as primary academic counselor for transfer students
    • informed major advisors of completed pre-requisites and requirements
    • documented completed pre-matriculation requirements for Registrar’s Office
  • Recruitment and Outreach – assisted potential students in making informed decisions about their collegiate choices and showcased the awesome opportunities at UCSB:
    • presented admissions preparation information and ‘Why Choose UCSB for your Engineering Education’ at High Schools and Community Colleges
    • described undergraduate academics and Engineering programs and opportunities to over 300 ‘drop-in’ visitors annually
    • planned and coordinated the Engineering segments for the Chancellor’s Regional Receptions, Spring Insight, Fall Preview Days and Parent’s Weekend
