From the Archives

In 1989, a group of Mechanical Engineering students designed a human-powered submarine as their final project for ME156C (equivalent to today's capstone). Pictured here, they're testing the sub in Ocean Engineering Lab's large wave tank, constructed from a surplus Navy fuel tank and canopy from a jet fighter. Our students have always been great at finding creative ways to build innovative transportation.
