Boldly going into microfluidics where no one had gone before

VIDEO INTERVIEW

Watch: Mechanical Engineering Professor Carl Meinhart reflects on how growing up on a farm inspired him to pursue mechanical engineering and, ultimately, the field of microfluidics research.

"We were trying to figure out how we could measure the fluid motion inside a pipe smaller than a human hair. It had never been done before," Meinhart reflected upon his early years as a member of the faculty at UCSB. "Many people in the community said it, this can't be done - and we figured out a way to do it."

Today, Meinhart and his colleagues developed and patented technology that has become the gold standard for micro fluidics diagnostics.
