Research
Assanis’ research interests lie in the thermal sciences and their applications to energy conversion, power and propulsion, and automotive systems design. His research focuses on analytical and experimental studies of the thermal, fluid and chemical phenomena that occur in internal combustion engines, after-treatment systems, and fuel processors. His efforts to gain new understanding of the basic energy conversion processes have made significant impact in the development of energy and power systems with significantly improved fuel economy and dramatically reduced emissions. His group’s research accomplishments have been published in over 350 articles in books, journals and international conference proceedings.
